Quality-first workflow
Keep the original, inspect its dimensions, then make the smallest necessary change. Resize only when a pixel requirement exists. For a KB limit, start with moderate compression and reduce dimensions only if quality remains too high for the target. Review text, faces and sharp edges at full size before submitting.
Format limits
JPEG is efficient for photographs but cannot preserve transparent pixels. PNG is useful for graphics and transparency but can be large for photos. WebP often balances quality and size, although the receiving service must accept it. Converting a low-quality source to a new format cannot restore lost detail.
