Before compressing
First identify whether the PDF is mostly text, scanned images or a mixture. Image-based compression is most effective on scans and photo-heavy documents, but it may rebuild pages as images and remove selectable text. A text-native PDF may already be compact and show limited reduction.
Before submitting
Open the result, check every page, confirm orientation and verify that names, numbers, stamps and small text remain readable. Check whether the receiving organization accepts a rasterized document, requires a specific page size or prohibits changes to a digitally signed PDF.
