Practical guide
Settings, common uses and limitations before you process a file.
Remove the background from a portrait and create a transparent PNG. The tool estimates a foreground mask, preserves the person and lets you adjust faint-background removal and edge softness before downloading.
Clear lighting and visible contrast between the subject and background usually produce the cleanest result. Fine hair, motion blur and colors shared by the foreground and background are more difficult for any automatic background remover.
Common uses
- Create a transparent profile photo
- Prepare a headshot for a presentation
- Remove a plain wall behind a portrait
- Place a person over a new design background
Better results
- Use a clear photo with the complete subject visible
- Start with conservative edge settings
- Check hair and clothing against the transparency grid
- Download PNG because JPG cannot store transparency
Important limitations
- The model is optimized mainly for people and portraits
- Complex objects and crowded scenes may need manual editing
- Initial model resources can take time to load on slower connections
